Art Work Details: Brookside Gardens in Montgomery County, MD, has a beautifully sited Japanese style Tea House which is used for meditation and contemplation.  In very late winter, just before the trees leafed out, I ventured to paint a winter scene, devoid of color.  Painted only in raw umber and white, this monochrome study captures the coldness of the darkest season, yet anticipates the warming sun of spring.  This painting was done en plein air in early February of 2018, in one session.
