The Staten Island Ferry links Manhattan to Staten Island and is both a commuter route and a major tourist attraction. If one times it right, you can leave Manhattan just as the setting sun hits and reflects on buildings and the Statue of Liberty. The resulting discharge of light is both illuminating and blinding; the photons of light transform the city for one brief second; then it all changes and the magic is gone. On the return journey back to Manhattan, the scene is dramatically altered with the darkening sky now highlighting the artificial lights which appear, one by one.
