Art Work Details: Atlantis, as Nicholas the fishmonger calls him, is a fish in distress.   Atlantis is a pet fish in an aquarium tank in a seafood market – a very precarious position for any live fish.  He can look out from the murky water to see his brethren on ice, their time up, chilling before being selected by a customer, weighed, scaled and gutted.  Atlantis has turned his back on the carnage behind him.  Uniquely vulnerable, he cannot fail to see the terror in the eyes of his own reflection. The Fishmonger’s Pet illustrates the fragility of life, of beaten spirit and the precarious nature of our assumptions.
